The Pipers day started off with breakfast at Annie Sweets house where Tara and Daniel had spent the night. They ate quickly and then piled into a small Prius and were dropped off at the Family YMCA in Eugene. They met up with their parents and once everyone was fully satisfied with their experience at the workout center, Daniel sent out a Uber request to nearest driver. 2 minutes later Jesse in a silver Prius pulled up at the curb and the family piled in. The car felt so cramped compared to their current vehicle, but the Prius was definitely less bouncy on the road and didn't have to drive 2 miles an hour over the speed bumps just to keep the car together. About thirteen minutes later the car pulled up alongside the families Rv.
Once again the Pipers were on the road, driving to Bend. Rain hit the windshield as they drove. Within seconds the rain was pouring down, drowning the windshield in water. As the windshield wipers swept away the water the Pipers realized this was the first time they had encountered rain on their trip. Just as fast as the pouring had begun it seized, and like it had never even happened the clouds parted and the bright blue sky awoke. The road ran under the wheels, the wind brushed against the windows creating a slight whistling sound. After a hour of driving or so the Family pulled off the road to a day site by Odell lake. The lake was absolutely gorgeous and even though it was summer there was a snow covered mountain just across the lake. After getting a small bit of fresh air they decided to get back in the Rv and finish the drive to Bend.
The 1000 mile count came and went on the dashboard. The Pipers had been to 10 different theaters over the course of 11 days. The first part of the journey was coming to an end. The tour would once again pick up on Saturday the 29th. So after today the Pipers had 2 days of rest in their home town, but then they would again pull out of their driveway and head down to California, and then across the United States.
The day was going by slowly, Daniel and Tara had gone and gotten burritos at the families favorite post-skiing restaurant, Parrillas Grill. When they got back to the Rv Kim shared some of her new plans and ideas with them. Kim told them that the tour was to stressful and that they needed to have less theaters booked and more days just to hang out. This sounded perfectly ideal for the kids. The Pipers were all very stressed, Kim especially, Kim had one of the biggest roles on the tour. She was in charge of booking the theaters, and without booked theaters the movie wouldn't be playing. Kim had also been having a lot of trouble with actually booking the theaters which was great now, considering they didn't actually want those theaters booked.
Phoenix, Oregon played in the Volcanic Theater Pub in Bend tonight. It was a very informal theater, it was a bar, but had nice seating and a enjoyable screen. Not all the seats were filled but quite a few were. People laughed and definitely enjoyed the movie. Now I need to break the news to you that since the first part of our tour is wrapping up, and that the Pipers will be at home for a couple days, there will not be a blog until Saturday. Unless I write a summary blog. So stay tuned for that!
What a great job you are doing - very honest and descriptive!!
Loving all of your posts, Tara. I sooo relate to this line (and many others): "didn't have to drive 2 miles an hour over the speed bumps just to keep the car together." LOL. I feel the same way. :)
