Last night had passed without any interruptions. Even the morning was more restful then yesterday. I was woken up earlier then I would have liked. But my parent were a lot less clumsy and loud. I was even able to fall back asleep a little once we were back at Zion. I was constantly woken up by the sound of the side door opening and closing, but I definitely got more sleep then the night before. I didn't get out of bed until around ten. I almost grabbed my phone before I left but then remembered that it was dead. After eating breakfast and packing up my bed, we said goodbye to any last little bits of service and headed out of the canyon. We had bought a tunnel pass, so when we would get to the exiting tunnel the rangers would clear out the tunnel and let us go through straight down the middle. The tunnel was dark with a few skylights to let the outside light in. We drove on top of the middle yellow line, with our headlights on just so we could see, the tunnel was a full mile long. Since we were only aloud to go 25 mph it took a long time. Finally we saw the light at the end of the tunnel.
As we drove the big cliffs began to fade behind us, opening room for new lands. We passed a Chevron gas station, and while we were parked I ran in with crossed fingers. My hope was that they would have a iPhone charger. After looking around the store for a few minutes I saw what I was looking for, I swiped my card and bought the charger. I had high hopes for this charger, hopes that it would charge my phone up again. I ran back to Rv with anticipation running through my veins. Once I got back, I immediately plugged in the cord. I flipped over my phone. I nearly jumped when I saw my screen light up. I was relieved that I didn't have to spend more then 8 dollars to get my phone working again. I'd never seen the Grand Canyon before, only in pictures. I had a vision in my head of what it might look like. Man was I off. I had figured one big canyon that only went in one direction, no canyon crossroads. In the pictures it was orange so obviously I thought it would be single colored.
Once we arrived I was shocked of what I saw. There was so many different legs of the canyon, as well as colors, the first part was rocky sandy trees, or I figured it was, it was so far away you couldn't really see details. Then there were red, yellow, and orange drop-offs. I walked around to a canyon view point. I looked down thousands of feet, probably more. And I couldn't even see the bottom. It was the most vast deep canyon I'd ever seen. When we were walking back from the view point a lady walking a dog passed us. Or that is what I first thought, but then I saw the animals horns, and neck. No dogs neck is longer then a foot. And no dog has horns! I realized that this so called dog was actually a goat, and when I looked behind me at the goat I saw the weirdest thing. The goat was wearing a diaper! The diaper was a human baby diaper, and that wasn't even the weirdest thing, the diaper actually fit the goat.
We were going to be spending a couple nights in the Grand Canyon National Park. I wasn't exactly sure what we were going to do to fill up our days. My mom wanted to go hiking, and personally I didn't think we'd get any better views of the Canyon then we got right from the top. Other then hiking there wasn't that much to do. At least the place we were going to be parked at was cool and quiet.
I am jelly. I look forward to experiencing the Grand Canyon someday. You also got to see a diapered goat?! Now you get to cross two things off you bucket list! Hehe.
Oooo North Rim! Jack and I got married here twenty years ago. We hadn't intended to marry just yet, but one of the rim lookouts had a sign that said "trailhead and wedding spot." So we went down the trail, and sure enough. There was a great overlook with towering red cliffs and hawks sailing in the air below us. Jack started reciting vows, and I joined in, editing them on the fly. I put in "cherish" which he had forgot, and he put in "have so much fun with" which I hadn't considered at all. So our vows are "to love honor, cherish, and have so much fun with", and those tall red cliffs are our witnesses.
