Day 36, Walking the Streets

When we pulled out of last nights RV park I was ready to drive the multiple hours to New Orleans. I didn't know much anything about New Orleans, just what I'd heard from my parents. Which was that it was sinking, and that some parts were undersea level. This wasn't super exiting to me, after seeing the houses that were sinking into the Mississippi yesterday it wasn't that unbelievable that a town right next to the Mississippi was sinking as well. Thankfully the Rv park we were staying in was in a non sinking zone. So I didn't have to worry about that as I slept. We saw quite a bit of rain on the trip to New Orleans, it was hard to see out of the window as we drove, so much mist from the rain hitting the cars made it almost look foggy. "No wonder its sinking, the town is getting hammered with rain!" Daniel mentioned as we entered the outskirts of New Orleans.

New Orleans was different then I expected, once the rain stopped we had walked the few blocks into the French Quarter. The first section was residential and a few blocks later it was by the visitor centers information the fun stuff. We walked all the way down to the Mississippi, the river moved slowly just a few feet below the end of the sidewalk. I wondered that if the Mississippi overflowed that maybe the bottom section of the town flooded. There were stores on every block of the French Quarter. Wether it was cafe's, chocolate shops, or clothing stores the blocks were jam packed with all three. The rain sprinkled on our heads for about an hour and when it came to an end and the sun poked its head out. We got a snack at a little shop near the Mississippi. One of the things we had checked out on the way there was a old Roman Catholic Cathedral, I heard it was the oldest in the U.S. The church had some super cool paintings on the ceilings as well as very well done stained glass on the windows.

On the way to our cafe I had seen one of the stores that I very much wanted to shop at. H&M. There wasn't any in Klamath Falls so I hadn't gotten to look at them. The people that I knew that shopped their said it was a lot like Forever 21. So I went ahead of my family to get some extra time there. They said they'd meet me there once they made it. I looked around the store for a little while and tried some different things on. Their prices were what they were most known for. I found a pair of shorts that I liked and since they were for the coming school year my mom bought them. After I was complete with the store we left. Daniel headed back to the Rv and the rest of us continued walking. My feet were beginning to hurt, so at one of the many foot massage places Kim and I got a foot massage.

20 minutes later my feet were feeling much better. They were soft and ready for some more walking. We slowly worked our way back to the Rv and texted Daniel to turn on some rice. Once dinner was all ready we ate, there was rice, potatoes, and freshly made salad. Tomorrow, Phoenix, Oregon plays at the Zeitgeist Theater & Lounge in New Orleans at 7. See you there!
